SINGING will take pride of place in the Festival schedule of events for 2016.
Not only are we celebrating the return of Robbie O’Connell, whom we have very much missed the past couple of years, but happily we will also welcome back troubadour extraordinaire, Ed Miller.
But wait, there’s more! Altan’s Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh, internationally renowned Donegal fiddler and an exceptionally beautiful singer, will grace our concert halls and classrooms.
Those of you who were with us the years we had FullSet (yes, we do want them back again!) will remember lovely singer, Teresa Horgan, who captivated every heart within earshot. This year, Teresa returns with The Outside Track, yet another top young Celtic band making a splash on stage and in the charts.
These performers alone justify our claim of 2016 as the “The Year of Singing and Song.” And yet, you can add to this mix The High Kings from Ireland – Finbarr Clancy, Brian Dunphy, Martin Furey, and Darren Holden – four wildly popular vocalists who grew up steeped in the Irish musical tradition.
As an aside, these singing giants play 13 different instruments between them. Is it any wonder they are the hottest group on the Celtic circuit today? This stellar roster of singers will thrill us in concert and lend their considerable talents to Festival singing programs. We hope you’ll take advantage of this truly one-of a-kind opportunity to exercise the instrument that is uniquely your own. Your voice, along with your mind and your heart, will be fully engaged. That’s a promise.
