The artists are confirmed, the venues are set, and the schedule is finalized. We are so excited! And this year will see the return of two of the Festival favorites: the opening at Uptop AND the Hooley in Walsenburg (both free events for the community).
Over the next few weeks we will be highlighting some of this year’s events, giving you more information on what to expect from the Festival. The first event we want to bring attention to is this year’s piping retreat.
Running concurrently with the Festival again this year is the Spanish Peaks Piping Retreat. Everyone is welcome: Folks just starting out and more advanced students from across the country gather together in small groups to learn tunes and techniques for Scottish smallpipes and Uilleann pipes. This year’s instructors are Barry Shears (from Vancouver Island), Jerry O’Sullivan (from New York), and Seán Gavin (from Detroit). All three of these outstanding musicians will be performing at the Friday evening concert at the Fox Theatre (piping retreat registrants receive a complimentary ticket to the show!).
