When you come to the Spanish Peaks area for the Celtic Music Festival (celticmusicfest.com), there are several things you simply must experience. The first of these is our opening festivities in the historic Uptop ghost town at the top of Old La Veta Pass. We are returning to this wonderful venue after several years away and are thrilled at the prospect of holding our first events in the old Dance Hall where you can enjoy your picnic lunch, listen to some wonderful Celtic music, and maybe partake in a dance or two. We will start at 11am on Thursday with some basic dance instruction, followed by time to enjoy your own picnic lunch (remember to bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on) and the wonderful scenery, finishing up with a rousing time for dancing and playing.
I would encourage you to look at a couple of websites that describe Uptop: https://www.uncovercolorado.com/activities/uptop-ghost-town/ and http://uptopghosttown.com/ . You will notice from the maps that there are two ways in and out of the old ghost town. (Having been there recently, I would encourage you to enter the town from the WEST.) This day is truly an experience that will be unforgettable. And remember, all the events at Uptop on Thursday, September 21 are free. We hope to see you there! (More “Things” coming soon.)
