Spanish Peaks International Celtic Music Festival has been part of the cultural and artistic fabric of Huerfano County since 2005. The last week of every September our county opens its doors to this unique four-day event, that brings world-class musicians into our communities, and this coming September proudly presents the world renowned piper, flute and recorder player from Galicia, Spain, Carlos Nunez and his band.
Our guest artists present daily programs of outstanding concerts, instrumental workshops, special demonstration talks, spiced with spontaneous music and singing sessions that give pleasure to our own citizens as well as festival participants from beyond our borders. The festival also reaches into our schools, offering our youth exposure to a world outside of southern Colorado. And from further a-field the festival attracts hundreds of visiting participants, many discovering the friendliness and beauty of our county for the first time and others who have become regular returnees.
For ten years now dedicated volunteers, generous lodging hosts, individual and business donors, and specific supporters of our Schools Outreach Program have made the festival happen. Frankly, the collective job of mounting this festival is mammoth, but for those participating or attending, it is immensely rewarding. To all of you who have in the past and are again this year putting yourselves on the line for the sake of keeping the festival alive and growing, our gratitude is without measure.
Unfortunately, besides an ongoing need for volunteers, this year for the first time our fundraising drive has failed to bring in enough money over and above projected registrations to support the festival and its ever increasing expenses. The festival is a 501(C) 3 non-profit educational and artistic organization. The festival has neither an underwriter nor a major backer to keep it financially on solid ground as a business operation. Until such is found, the festival has to rely on individuals and local businesses for financial support.
If you value this unique annual event, please consider giving a donation. If you have already given earlier, and it is possible for you to do so, could you consider adding to your original gift. With your help the Spanish Peaks Celtic Festival will proudly continue to bring world-class musical talent to Huerfano County.
Donation checks can be made out to SPICMF and sent to PO Box 612, La Veta CO 81055. Please include your telephone number and your return address.
Thanks,
